It was also my first chance to do an on-site Baby Teresa baby outfit donation where I met the women and mothers that our suits would be going to.
The donation took place in a Nubian village on the west bank of the Nile near Aswan. We spent the evening in this village eating a sumptuous home cooked meal.
After dinner my tour leader Hisham was kind enough to introduce me to the main “Mum” of this village and she had organized for me to meet one lady who was 7 months pregnant and another who had a little child only months old. When I handed over the suits all I can remember hearing in the darkness was their cries of “Thank you Kristy” over and over again (Kirsty’s a hard name to say with an Egyptian accent!). I’m not sure I’ve ever been thanked as loudly and as enthusiastically as I was that night and my hand was held over and over again by each of the woman.
It was a really beautiful experience and one that I’ll always treasure. To follow are some photos of the village where the donation took place the Mum’s and some of the local kids.
While this is the third donation I’ve been part of (Egypt, Jordan and Australia) this was the first one I got to do with people in person and it was amazing. Then upon arriving home and reading my emails I read that Susan Thomas (Uganda) and Aaron Jones (Kenya & Tanzania) were going through the same experience! Looking forward to sharing with you their photos and stories soon as well as my experience in Jordan.
Loving being part of Baby Teresa – where for each baby outfit we sell, we also donate another to a baby in need!
Xx Kirsty
To follow are the Nubian women I met who welcomed me so enthusiastically!

And a shot of the village, the camels we rode in on, our dinner (yum) and me playing a little Nubian dress up and having a blast!
